Privacy Policy

Playground Horn is a free, non-commercial app operated by Nescience LLC. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it. The short version: we collect very little, we don't track you, and we don't sell your data.

What We Collect

• Email address — Used to sign you in via a magic link. Your email is never shown to other users.
• Name and family info — Optional. If provided, visible to members of your groups.
• Playground check-ins — When you announce that you're at a playground, we record which playground and when. This data is automatically deleted within 24 hours.
• Push notification token — Used to deliver notifications to your device. Removed when you sign out.

What We Don't Collect

• No analytics or usage tracking
• No browsing or app usage history
• No device location is sent to our servers — your GPS location is only used on your device to center the map
• No passwords — we use passwordless sign-in
• No contacts, photos, or social media data

Location

The app requests location permission solely to center the map on your device. Your device coordinates are never transmitted to us. The only location-related data we receive is the playground you select when you announce you're there. We do not verify your physical location. The app only operates in San Francisco.

How We Use Your Data

We use the data listed above solely to operate Playground Horn — to sign you in, notify your groups when you're at a playground, and send transactional emails (such as account deletion confirmations). We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any other purpose.

Data Sharing and Sale

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We do not sell your data. Period. The only parties that process your data are the service providers listed below, and only as necessary to operate the app.

Third-Party Services

We use the following services to operate the app. Your data may be processed on their servers in the United States:

• Supabase — Database and authentication
• Firebase Cloud Messaging — Push notifications
• Google Maps — Map display (subject to Google's Privacy Policy)
• Mailgun — Transactional email

These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are contractually required to protect your information.

Data Retention

Playground check-in data is automatically deleted within 24 hours. All other account data is retained until you delete your account.

Your Rights Under California Law (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect — described in this policy
• Delete your personal information — available anytime via the app or our account deletion page
• Opt out of the sale of your data — we do not sell your data, so there is nothing to opt out of
• Non-discrimination — we will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the app's settings or from our account deletion page. Deletion is permanent and removes all your data, including your profile, group memberships, groups you own, and check-in history.

Children's Privacy

Playground Horn is intended for use by adults (parents and caregivers), not children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above.

Governing Law

This policy is governed by the laws of the State of California.
